Toys for Boys

The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

Sound familiar?

Well Denis’ new toys arrived in the mail today. You see, Denis is 100% toy-focused. When he is not riding his snow machine (that Canadian for snowmobile) or his 4-wheeler (Canadian for ATV), Denis like to play with servers. And since he likes things to go fast, he likes his servers fast as well. Preferably lots of them.

Well, thanks to AMD, Denis has four new servers to play with. (One more will be available for viewing at EclipseCon) If they ask really nicely, I bet he will even let Karl and Matt play with them as well.

The webmaster team has lots of great ideas on how to put these new servers to good use. If you are a committer at Eclipse, or a user of our website, this is a good day for you. Stay tuned for better speed, more reliability and improved service.

AMD joins IBM, HP and Intel as companies which have kindly contributed hardware to help us run Eclipse.org. Thanks to all!

EclipseCon Early Registration Deadline is Today!

Just a reminder to all you folks out there that today is the last day for EclipseCon 2008 early registrations.

EclipseCon 2008 is shaping up to be the best EclipseCon ever. More talks, more tracks, Developer Days, hackathons, cool keynotes…. If you are interested in Eclipse technologies for tools, frameworks or runtimes this is the conference to attend in ’08.

I hope to see you there.

Fake Dan Quayle?

Could one of our EclipseCon keynoters have a secret 8 year plan in the works?

To be specific here I am not talking about Cory Doctorow, because, well, as far as I can tell Cory’s career path is to be Cory Doctorow. And I’m not talking about Sam Ramji although you have to believe that the half life of an open source proponent at Microsoft has gotta have its limits. I’m talking about Dan Lyons, better known as Fake Steve Jobs.

Based on his recent posts it’s pretty obvious to me what Dan is doing: he is lobbying hard to be Barack Obama’s running mate. Not only that, but like any good running mate, in his recent posts he has gone negative in a way that the candidate can’t. I mean plausible deniability is the name of the political game, right? Besides, given Obama’s obvious mastery of the internet, having an A-list blogger can only help his campaign. It’s a match made in heaven.

Since we still want Dan to show up at EclipseCon, we will be launching a “Dan4Veep” campaign at the conference. Keep tuned for more details. After all, with a role model to follow like the previous Dan in the VP office, Dan Lyons is a sure bet for the job.

Super Tuesday at Eclipse!

Well, maybe not quite “Super” 🙂

The nominations for the Eclipse Foundation Board of Director elections are now posted.

This is a great collection of nominees. I want to personally thank each of them for putting their names forward. Given the candidates, the Eclipse community will be well served by any outcome from the election.

I hope each of them takes the opportunity to blog or post on eclipse.foundation about their goals and ambitions for Eclipse in the coming year.
